We are indeed proud of our sixteen Forest Park students who were named as part of this year's Youth Salute ceremony. They are Joshua Arnold, Casey Basham, Ashley Belson, Eric Brent Jr., Patrick Cobb, Matthew Croghan, Bryan Dale, Colleen Gately, Kaitlyn Hammack, Michael Klemencic, Lauren Luckenbaugh, Jaclyn Redman, Elizabeth Saccoccia, Mallory Salesses (not pictured), Torey Tomczak and Laura Walters. Michael Klemencic was one of the top ten nominees.

Jessica Nixon and Samantha Wettasinghe took part in a student panel discussion on Capital Hill on March 24 about the Project Tomorrow findings on the future of education and learning. Congratulations to sophomore Genevieve Salamone for her Kennedy Center debut concert! Genevieve was chosen to perform with other talented high school musicians in the Northern Virginia area, side by side with members of the National Symphony Orchestra. The concert was held at the Kennedy Center in DC.

Raya Nickerson has had artwork selected, from her Art Portfolio Preparation Class, which is now being displayed in Richmond, VA for the 2009 session of the General Assembly! Lily Hummer, who is currently in Art 1, won High School Level 3rd place for the 2009 Youth Art Month Flag Design Competition for Virginia! Congrats to both these girls and to their wonderful teacher Ms. Rekas! |

This workshop is for young African American Journalists and is sponsored by the Washington Association of Black Journalists, and co-sponsored by The Washington Post's Young Journalists Development Program. Dan had to demonstrate dedication to the field and achievement within it. | |

Zach Owen won 1st place and an $800.00 award for his Computer Graphic Design entry in the PWC Service Authority's "Water Art, The value of Water" ceremony. His IT Computer Graphics teacher, Courtney Kellogg, also received an award. Congratulations to both! | |

We are also pleased to announce that Kieran McGrath has been selected as a 2008-09 National Hispanic Recognition Program Honorable Mention Student. Kieran is one of only 5,000 students selected from a pool of 200,000 from across the country to receive this recognition.

Jamie Lien was also named the top Youth Salute student for Prince William County and was awarded a check in the amount of $1,000. Jamie will also participate in the National Council on Youth Leadership conference in St. Louis, Missouri, October 18-21, 2008. |
